#FreeBritney: Jamie Spears Suspended as Conservator
Britney Spears is in a happy mood after her father was suspended as her conservator.
For 13 years, Jamie Spears has been responsible for a majority of his daughter’s $60-million estate, following her heavily publicised personal issues. Last November, she filed court documents to remove him from the position, citing years of abuse.
On Wednesday, 29 September, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled that Mr Spears be removed from his role, explaining that the “current situation is untenable” and “reflects a toxic environment”.
In his place, businessman John Zabel will temporarily serve as the 39-year-old songstress’s conservator until the end of the year.
Following the ruling, lawyer Mathew Rosengart told reporters outside the courthouse that Ms Spears is “very happy”. In a separate press conference, he said: “This is a substantial step toward [my client’s ] freedom. It’s been a lot of hard work. It’s been intense. I’m proud. Britney’s proud.”
A court hearing on ending the conservatorship for good will take place on 12 November.
